"I believe that the reason I was able to win it was because the majority of the others who might have won are members of the nominating committee and out of the remaining people I'm the closest to death," Bartle joked.

The majority of award categories were awarded to games released in the beta stage or as full versions in the period between May 2009 and May 2010. The Best Live Game category -- which is awarded to games currently in operation--must have been launched within North America at least 12 months prior to the date of May 2009 and were distinguished by extraordinary new content after that. Nominated for category of Best Community Relations and Audience Award categories need only to be in operation.
